Dr. Rodila earned her bachelor of science in biology at Wheaton College and was awarded the Russel L. Mixter Prize and Medal for her excellence.  She was also part of the Scholastic Honor Society.  During medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, she was an Edmond J. James scholar for her academic achievement in research.  She investigated the association between harpists’ playing methods and injuries. Dr. Rodila was a professional harpist, performing for weddings in special events throughout high school, college, and medical school.  Her expertise in performing with excellence and precision laid the foundation for her future profession as an eye surgeon.

Dr. Rodila was attracted to ophthalmology since she could use her skilled hands in a technically advanced field. During ophthalmology residency at Albany Medical College, she was chosen by faculty vote to receive the John A. Cetner Good Physician Award, for demonstrating the skills of a caring and compassionate physician while achieving technical and scientific excellence. Since residency, Dr. Rodila has been involved in cataract and cornea refractive surgery research. She has presented at national meetings and has been published in textbook in journal formats.

After completing a fellowship in cornea and external disease at Bascom Palmer at the University of Miami, Dr. Rodila was assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer in Palm Beach Gardens for six years. Subsequently, she worked at Aker Kasten Eye Center in Boca Raton where she specialized in cataract surgery.

Dr. Rodila was a principal investigator for a clinical trial of a uniquely shaped intraocular lens, to reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses after cataract surgery. Being one of the earliest surgeons to implant this lens, she trained in proctored other surgeons. Dr. Rodila is inspired to use the latest technology and pursue excellence in every aspect of care.

What Dr. Rodila find most satisfying about her profession is applying her technical abilities to improve someone’s site. “It is a joy to use my skills to transform someone’s daily experience throughout their life. I love making that kind of an impact.”  Dr. Rodila finds it especially rewarding to give the gift of sight to people who have severely limited access to care. She uses a different technique in settings where advanced technology cannot be used. Restoring site in impoverished societies makes a major impact not only on one’s ability to function and to survive, but it also greatly impacts their family. She has served in Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Kenya, and Liberia.

Throughout her career, Dr. Rodila has maintained certification with the American Board of Ophthalmology, and she is part of the following societies: American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Christian Medical and Dental Association, and Women in Ophthalmology. Dr. Rodila is on the board of the Christian Ophthalmology Society, where she serves as the chair of women’s mentorship. Dr. Rodila is also a board member of Vision Outreach International and Kids Around the World.

Dr. Rodila’s hobbies include being with her family and getting involved in various activities with her children – whether it is surfing, snorkeling, Krav Maga, Mountain biking, or skiing. One of her favorite things to do is travel with her family and plan memorable, active adventures together.
